The Water Works and Sewer Board of the Town of New Brockton provides drinking water for the Town of New Brockton and in the communities of Damascus, Bethany, Kinston, Ino, Goodman and a portions of Elba as well as 4 military TAC fields. It treats and delivers and average of 6,443,192 gallons of water per month to single and multifamily residences, small businesses, industrial, commercial and agricultural customers. This safe, high quality water meets all state and federal drinking water standards. The water department maintains 4 wells, 4 elevated storage tanks, over 1,000 water meters and flush hydrants in addition to regularly scheduled water testing.
Revenue received from the sale of potable water at the current rates is no longer sufficient to fully meet the operational costs associated with the treatment, storage, maintenance, compliance and distribution of the water. To continue our long standing tradition of providing reliable water service, rate increases are periodically necessary to balance revenue and expenses. Rate increases are now necessary as we face increasing operational costs that include (but not limited to):
*Energy costs necessary to operate wells, pumps & all facilities.
*Costs for treating drinking water
*Ongoing Maintenance & labor costs to keep infrastructure in working order.
*Compliance costs associated with stricter state and federal water quality regulations.
The Water Board has approved a water rate increase of 25% on all retail accounts and an increase of inclining rates over base amounts used. This increase will be effective for the water used in the month of March 2015 and will appear on the April 2015 bill.
